Congressman Hamadeh Applauds Awarding of Medal of Freedom Posthumously to Conservative Icon Charlie Kirk
WASHINGTON D.C. - On Tuesday October 14th, Congressman Abraham Hamadeh joined other dignitaries at the White House as President Donald Trump awarded the Medal of Freedom posthumously to Charlie Kirk.
On what would have been Charlie Kirk’s 32nd birthday, President Donald Trump awarded Charlie’s widow, Erika Kirk, with the highest civilian medal.
“Charlie was a fierce advocate for our shared conservative principles and articulated them with a moral clarity that is both remarkable and far too rare. Charlie’s principles and practices were the epitome of those for which the Medal of Freedom is awarded,” stated Congressman Hamadeh.
“The Medal of Freedom is awarded to anyone who has made an 'especially meritorious contribution to cultural or other significant public or private endeavors,' Charlie certainly did that, and his legacy continues. His influence is spreading. Families are returning to church, more and more young people are getting involved in politics, and the demand for the sort of civic discourse he practiced is growing. That is why I introduced legislation, along with Republican Study Committee Chairman August Pfluger (TX-11), that directs the U.S. Treasury to mint 400,000 silver dollar coins with the likeness of Charlie and engraved with the verse: “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
Original cosponsors for the Charlie Kirk Commemorative Coin Act include Congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna (FL-13), who got her political start with Turning Point U.S.A., a popular conservative student group founded by Charlie, and Representatives Don Bacon (NE-02), Jack Bergman (MI-01), Andy Biggs (AZ-05), Earl "Buddy" Carter (GA-01), Michael Collins Jr. (GA-10), Mike Flood (NE-01), Harriet Hageman (WY-AL), Diana Harshbarger(TN-01), Erin Houchin (IN-09), Ronny Jackson (TX-13), Addison McDowell (NC-06), John McGuire (VA-05), Jimmy Patronis (FL-01), Michael A. Rulli (OH-06), and William Timmons IV (SC-04).
BACKGROUND:
If passed and enacted into law, Charlie Kirk will be the youngest individual to ever be immortalized on legal U.S. currency, joining historical figures including President John F. Kennedy, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Justice Antonin Scalia, and Mother Teresa. The coins will be minted at no cost to the taxpayer, and the final design will be approved by President Trump himself.
