Congressman Hamadeh Condemns Arizona Attorney General’s Attack on ICE Agents

January 23, 2026

WASHINGTON D.C. - Congressman Abe Hamadeh (AZ-08) condemns Arizona’s illegitimate attorney general Kris Mayes’ comments regarding ICE Agents and misleading the public on Arizona’s “Stand Your Ground” law.

“Kris Mayes’ comments justifying the murder of our ICE agents were reprehensible but entirely predictable.

This is the natural consequence of elevating a far-left political activist to Arizona’s top law enforcement position,” stated Congressman Hamadeh.

According to the New York Post, "Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes wildly suggested that residents can open fire on masked ICE agents if they feel their life is in danger under the state’s self-defense laws."

There is nothing in Arizona’s “Stand Your Ground” law, which allows citizens to use deadly force against a law enforcement officer acting in the line of duty.

“It’s kind of a recipe for disaster because you have these masked federal officers with very little identification, sometimes no identification, wearing plain clothes and masks,” Mayes said in her shocking interview.

Earlier this month, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) released new statistics on assaults against U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) law enforcement who now face a more than 1,300% increase in assaults, a 3,200% increase in vehicular attacks against them, and an 8,000% increase in death threats.
